George and Bennie Dean

George Dean lives in Riverview (the neighborhood you can download from the Sims 3 EA website after you register your Sims 3 game.) His father lives in the Grandpas retirement home.  George’s home is the OLD Riverview Fire Department.  He’s been working in the law enforcement career (Patrol Officer -4) but now with the Ambitions expansion can now be the fireman he always saw himself to be.

George Dean is brave, family oriented, good, athletic and friendly.  He is also a special sim as he has a hidden trait that allows him to set things on fire and change normal fruit and veggies into flamefruit which can be a handy simolean making skill.  He has 2 points of logic and two in athletic.  George does make a good fireman and I always switch him to that career now.  Since he is a family sim, I also let him spring his father from the home and move him in with George.  Bennie is a big help while his son is climbing the Firefighter career ladder.  Bennie’s cooking, fishing and gardening skills allow George to concentrate on building his athletic and handiness skills that a fire fighter needs.  Hal Breckenridge is George’s best friend.

George’s lifetime wish is to be surrounded by family so that calls for some expansion of the firehouse eventually or he will have to move to a larger home.  Fortunately, the fire station is easily expanded like the second floor of the tower makes a nice room for his father and the porch on that floor can also be converted to another room.  The first floor is mostly parking but that space can be used as well and the first floor of the tower easily became a second bathroom by removing the outside door and enclosing the interior.

George Working on the Woo Woo 4000

Once George reaches level 9 in the Firefighter career he can pass his hidden trait on to his children which is pretty cool.  Thus he makes a unique target of a legacy family, if you choose to do that.  With so many of the EA made families as dysfunctional or messed up in some way, George Dean is surprisingly normal in his traits the hidden one is just an extra surprise.  Give him a try!

Elaine Joy Cooking

Norman and Elaine Joy live in Riverview (the neighborhood you can download for free from the EA Sims3 website after you register Sims 3).  If you have the Ambitions Expansion, the game drops the consignment shop right next to the Joy Farm so it’s convient for selling homemade items.

Norman and his daughter Elaine are best friends so unlike some EA made families, they aren’t disfunctional at all.  Norman is a perfect farmer and the Joy Farm is well suited for him.  His lifetime want is a Perfect Garden.  He’s a Technophobe, Handy, Never Nude, Green Thumb and Frugal.  He loves clipping coupons from the daily newspaper and gets a boost from using them.  He tends the farm in the mornings, sits and clips his paper up then upgrades something around the farm or goes fishing at the river behind the farm for fertilizer.  It’s a simple life for him but it is what he wants.

Daughter Elaine wishes to be a Culinary Librarian.  Is Over Emotional, Natural Cook, Good, Family-Orientated and also a Green Thumb.  She helps her father with the farm and works part-time at the grocery store as a Shopping Music DJ.  She likes to chat on the phone with her friend Ginny McDermott that lives on a nearby farm with her family.

Norman Joy During Planting Season

Money is a bit tight when you begin with these two.  Their crops are all normal quality which I upgraded by disposing of those crops after the first harvest and replacing with Nice or Very Nice Quality plants.  Norman makes an ideal gardener and fishing for fertilizer helps him unwind.  Elaine working only part-time allows her to help with the family farm or she could join the Culinary Career.

In my game, she stayed on the farm and painted after the farming was done for the day and before work.  They saved for a trip to France for Elaine and she brought back a husband very knowledgeable in the ways of nectar making.  A basement built under the barn, housed the new nectar making equipment and the farm expanded it’s grape crops planting more and different varieties.  Elaine’s husband is also a Private Investigator and works at that too for extra simoleans but not that seriously as the nectar comes first.  It’s been sucessful for them, Elaine has had some children and the little farm house has been added on to.

With Norman’s handy skill he could also try inventing.  Really, lots of different ways you could work this family.  You could get them both jobs in town and keep a small number of crops as a part-time hobby farm or you can do what I did and really expand it into a successful business. Joy Farms Nectar is now famous in Riverview!

A tip:  You can send Norman to collect seeds to really give his farm a boost.  A good place to collect seeds is behind Don Lothorio’s pond then move towards the Bagley farm till the fence, looking under the trees.  Behind the Mc Dermott farm are normally several seeds and quite often one or two of the coveted Special Seeds that are a real find.  About every two days or so…it’s good to pick up the seeds in that area.  Extras like the uncommons that you soon really have little use for you can use for fertilizer or sell at the consignment shop.  Selling seeds at the consignment shop is a good way to build up your rep at the shop fast so that your items there sell faster and for more simoleans.  Have fun!  Tootle Loo!

Jon Lesson with Constance Shelley

Jon Lessen lives in Riverview (the neighborhood you can download from the Sims 3 EA website after you register your Sims 3 game.) His luxious manion is between the Shallow family and Dr. Wilson, what neighbors those are!  I stayed for awhile in his guesthouse till a spook scared me off…who knew the place was haunted?  Yet while there I did learn some things about the musician known as Jon Lessen.

I rode to the grocery store with him in one of his four cars, eventually I talked him into selling off two of the cars in his collection that he rarely drove as their maintenance was costing a pretty simolean.  Yet now..where was I?  Yes…Yes..that’s it.  Jon and I were are the grocery store and we were stopped right outside the front door.  A woman in a tan trench coat was questioning him.  I hoped not about the extra fruit hidden in my hat, oops now you know why gnomes wear such big hats…yes that’s it.  Anyway the woman soon smiled and asked for an autograph then yes an interview as she was a member of the press.  Well…you know how musicians love attention from the media yet something about this one was special to Jon.

The very next day, he asked her over to the house and after dinner and a seranade they were in love.  How touching…well it wasn’t quite THAT touching to a gnome anyway.  Soon they were married and she moved in.  A trip to a stylist later…I could then see what Jon saw in Constance.  I guess his Artistic talent gave him better eyes to see hidden beauty when he stumbled across it or maybe it was because they are both hopeless romantics?  Something like that…

Jon’s mansion has a very open floor plan with rooms much bigger than he really needs and gaudy decor but that can be changed with some use of the style changer tool in buy mode and changing the floor plan as needed.  One glaring flaw is the kitchen sink needs to be moved next to the stove or the sims will wash their dishes in the bathroom sink, as it is closer to the dining room than the kitchen sink is. The huge pool is dramatic and great for entertaining.  The stage is…so very Rock Star…but let’s get to the details.

Jon is 16 days away from being an elder.  Has the Great Kisser, Virtuoso, Hopeless Romantic, Charismatic and Artistic traits.  He starts with one point of Charisma and 7 points in Guitar skill with the first Charisma book in his inventory but I would recommend talking to other sims to increase his charisma, as he will need to meet more friends as what musician doesn’t?  He works as a Lead Guitarist (8) in the Music Career which is only 3 days a week.  Doing Performances at the theater are a must and he can make pretty good tips playing at his favorite spot which is at Three Bridges Park in front of the theater.  The remains of his past mentor are in the guard house on a table in an urn, if you don’t like a haunt then you will wish to remove them straight away.  Otherwise it can be an interesting ghost unless you are an apple stealing gnome.  You can stock the small pond in front of the house with fish if you have 10 of the same fish in your inventory and choose “stock pond” option.

Jon Doing What He Does Best

Oh and ladies…just a tip for you…the way to Jon’s heart isn’t with apples but with Tri-Tip Steak but you can attract many a gnome with a shiny apple.

Cottoneye Compound

Cottoneye Compound

Hunter Cottoneye lives in Riverview (the neighborhood you can download from the Sims 3 EA website after you register your Sims 3 game), I lived with him for a time thus this report on him.  Hunter is an interesting sim, he lives in a bunker and is convinced “the big one” is coming.  Just what “the big one” is I think only he knows for sure.  He has a batch of traits that just make him a real loon of a sim.

Hunter was unemployed and just spending his time fishing when he wasn’t jogging around town talking to himself.  He had no friends…not a one and his simolean savings was dropping fast.  I had to act fast to save this one and to keep food in the bunker for myself as well.  Just how did I do it?  Well….I convinced Cottoneye that Riverview was woefully unprotected against the growing threat of the Sunset Valley army and of course “the big one”, as no one else but he..seemed as prepared for upcoming doom and destruction as himself.  (EA seems to have made Hunter into a Survivialist sim.) Considering Riverview’s whole military force consisted of Sherman Bagley, a mere grunt and two latrine cleaners, it wasn’t a hard sell.  Hunter joined the Riverview Army to change it from the inside and thus gaining an income.

Since Hunter spent most of his time, working out and talking to his fishbowls anyway, it seemed like a logical fit for him to join the army.  Gnomes are quite logical.  Thus Hunter started rising in the ranks of the army and the force attracted some new recruits surprisingly under Hunter’s command.

The poor fellow was still very much alone most of the time till the day the woman of his dreams walked into the bookstore wearing a swimsuit.  Hunter could appreciate her bold apparel choices as he often worked out in formal wear and slept in his camo himself.  It wasn’t long before they were happily discussing conspiracy theories and Hunter convinced Meadow to give up her townhouse and move into his bunker where they would both be much safer.  Yes…yes…yes…he found the only woman in Riverview insane enough to believe his stories.  What is the chance of that?  Hunter fell in love with the odd woman who first thing planted a garden outside the bunker and insisted on it’s expansion and a large fenced in enclosure to protect her plants. She of course brought lots of simoleans with her to finance these projects which was a good things as Hunter was hoarding gemstones and metal ingots in a secret compartment within the bunker walls rather than spending any simoleans.

Hunter & Meadow

Hunter & Meadow

Meadow quickly started storing vegetables and life fruit in the bunker and seemed a calming influence on poor Hunter, as she believed in his wild stories.  Ah the apples were now plentiful so a gnome was very happy too.  The two fished frequently at the river behind their bunker. (two good spots just to the right of the bridge and you can find gems and metals often near the big rock on the opposite shore.) Hunter actually wished to marry his girlfriend Meadow and asked her frequently, yet it wasn’t until they had been together awhile that she finally accepted. (The relationship bar had to be almost completely full.)
After their marriage, Hunter and Meadow had a daughter, Cheyanne Cottoneye who grew up surprisingly normal for being raised in a bunker by crazy parents.  “The Big One” has still not come but Hunter and Meadow might be the only ones prepared for it if it does.

Now for some gaming details :

Hunter is an interesting character and really not that hard of a sim to deal with which is amazing considering the amount of bad traits he has.  He is quite damaged mentally but does ok in the military career despite his challenges.  He was promoted quite quickly and moved up through the ranks despite his anxiety about crowds.  He could also make a living from fishing and collecting if you preferred not to have him work outside the bunker.  He planted a few plants before Meadow arrived and set up almost a full farm and he seemed to find gardening as soothing as she does.

When my son played Hunter in one of his neighborhoods, he took a diffent direction with him.  He sold off the top half of the bunker leaving just a slab over the top of it and used that money gained to support Hunter while he worked on fishing and collecting full-time.  Hunter’s fishing skill raised quickly and he was able then to support himself just with fishing and selling the rocks, metals and things he found while fishing….advancing to night fishing for death fish which are quite valuable to sell and he bought out the grocery store over time which made him quite successful.  He adopted a teen in his elder years who then inherited the bunker upon Hunter’s death.  There is quite a bit you could do with Hunter and I think the upcoming expansion will bring even more.  Have fun with him!

Lucky Perkins

Lucky Perkins

Lucky lives in Riverview (the neighborhood you can download for free from the EA Sims3 website after you register Sims 3) and he’s sort of a shiftless old bum. Alas, he can also be a lovable old coot and has a fine appreciation for a free apple when he can pinch one.  Beneath the scruffy exterior he’s a genius, yes he is.  Lucky is also a mooch, a kleptomaniac, a slob and can be impressed by his own mailbox but that is just his finer traits.  He’s also got a beard that is the envy of every gnome in Riverview!  So I’d say he has lots of potential!

His home at Skunk Hallow is a bit spartan and Lucky has been known to take baths in the rusty old tub in his yard so he’s a real diamond in the rough.  There is lots you can do with him though as he gets along quite well with, once you introduce him to the old gypsy woman who lives just down the road from Lucky.  So you could find him a bride….or….  you could clean him up and reform his life by finding him a job and getting him to stick with it.  If properly motivated, he will work like when said gypsy refused to marry him unless he had some form of income.  Quite smart of her I thought but she’s been around the block a few times herself.

You could take on the challenge of continuing Lucky’s current lifestyle of living off the land by fishing and harvesting veggies and fruits he comes across, mooching and scrunging through garbage?  It would be quite a challenge that way but it isn’t impossible because I’ve tried it.  Buying him a bookcase is a good first investment or a visit to the library to learn a few things.   After a trip to the library, he planted a small garden patch to keep him in pocket apples and tomatoes for his fishing trips.  Lucky could adopt an heir to leave his great fortune to?  Wed a sweet young thing he meets downtown to clean up after him and maybe support him in his declining years?  Lots of possibilities with Lucky and he’s got some life left in him to live.  So give him a try and he might grow on you like moss.  He sort of smells a bit like moss too but you get used to that.
